Lebanon geographical location between Africa & Europe makes Lebanon an important spot for migratory bird species. The birds’ migratory path parallel to the Lebanese coast has been known for years, through the passage of buzzards, eagles, hawks, vultures and others diurnal raptors.  Some nocturnal raptors fly for safety in the scattered caves of the valley and the facing cliffs surrounding the area.

Being at the heart of Lebanon, the reserve has been declared an Important Bird Area (IBA) in 2008.
