Biodiversity

The reserve is typical of low altitude Mediterranean communities.  The reserve embraces two main tree communities with various structures being dense, but young, woodland to more open woodland with scrubby vegetation.  Evergreen oak forest [Quercus calliprinos] occupies more than 50 ha and it is mixed with a deciduous oak [Quercus infectoria]and Strawberry Tree [Arbutus sp.].  Stone pine [Pinus pinea] woodland expands over 21 ha.

Bentael Nature Reserve has organized in conjunction with Kafr Club the annual race that takes place for the second time on the Independence Day. This 6.5km-race starts from the park house of the reserve in Bentael and finishes in Kafr club. Participants of all ages ran from Bentael to Kafr on November 22, 2011
